🏖️ A Significant Sandbank
Arangali is home to one of the largest and most significant remaining sandbanks along the Chalakudy River. The wide sandy landscape is an important part of the natural character and beauty of the area.
🤝 Community Conservation Efforts
When many of the sandbanks along the Chalakudy River were lost due to excessive sand mining, local residents and young people came together to form the Manappuram Protection Committee. Their collective efforts and vigilance have played an important role in protecting this area.
🌅 Scenic Beauty
The clear river water, lush greenery along the banks and wide stretches of sand create a beautiful visual experience, especially during the early morning and evening hours. A small temple is also situated along the riverside.

In earlier years, the famous ‘Arangali Fest’, a week-long cultural festival, was organised at this sandbank under the leadership of Kadukutty Grama Panchayat, with the participation of local and international artists.

Local clubs also organise plays and various cultural programmes here to create awareness about the importance of the sandbank and to promote environmental protection and conservation.
🌱 Current Status
Following the devastating floods of 2018, the sandbank gained additional natural beauty. However, heavy monsoon rains and strong flood flows in subsequent years have caused some damage to the area.
Large rocks and tree trunks have accumulated in several parts of the sandbank, while small channels have also formed. Nevertheless, Kadukutty Grama Panchayat is undertaking efforts to remove these obstructions and develop the area as an official tourism destination.
